Recent Performances Yield Grand Results for the Musical Bees

Performances at recent Marching Band Competitions hosted by Lexington, Nordonia and Copley High School have led to some outstanding results for the Medina Musical Bees. Medina finished Grand Champions at the 40th Annual “Festival of Champions held at Lexington High School on Saturday, September 29th. Performing a Gary P. Gilroy original marching band composition titled “The Gates,” the Bees received Best of Show Awards in Music, General Effect, Visual and Percussion in their inaugural competition of the season.

The following weekend the Bees finished on top again at the 2012 “Nordonia Festival of Bands” held on October 6th at Nordonia High School in Macedonia, Ohio. Led in performance by Field Commanders Katie Klein, Brian Kovack, Zack Abbey and Natalia Perkins, Medina earned the high overall total score of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) sanctioned competition. Awards received included Best Percussion, Best Auxiliary and First Place in Class AA along with Best of Show Awards in Percussion, Auxiliary, Visual Performance, Visual Effect and Music. The Musical Bees finished with a 263.65 out of a possible 300 points qualifying for the O.M.E.A. State Marching Band Finals and receiving Superior Ratings from the entire judging panel.

Performing this past Saturday, October 13, at Copley High School Marching Band Invitational Medina was named Reserve Grand Champions receiving 2nd Place in Class AA receiving the Best of Show Music Award. The Bees improved their score with a 270.745 qualifying once again for the OMEA State Finals. Medina’s next performance will be at the 39th Annual Newark Marching Band Invitational on Saturday, October 20th at Newark High School in Licking County, Ohio.
