Substitute Teaching Positions


To apply for a substitute teaching position with Medina City Schools, one must contact the Medina County Schools Educational Services Center (MCSESC) at 124 W. Washington Street, Medina, Ohio 44256. The telephone number is (330) 723-6393, extension 127 or 140. 

After completing the required paperwork for the MCSESC, candidates will receive notification that they have been approved by the county school board.  Candidates then need to print the forms listed to the right, fill out the forms and return them to Medina City Schools at 140 W. The daily teacher substitute rate is $85.  However, Medina City Schools offers the opportunity to earn $95 per day after working more than twenty days in a school year. 

The school district uses an automated system, SubFinder, to contact substitute teachers. With this automated system, guest teachers are able to "shop" for jobs from any touch-tone telephone or computer, at any time of the day, 24 hours a day. This system allows guest teachers to control the dates they are available to work.

Support Staff Substitutes


Medina City Schools employ Support Staff Substitutes in various positions including: Paraprofessionals (Teachers' Aides), Custodial, Food Services, Bus Drivers and Secretarial. The District is currently accepting applications for those interested in working as a Support Staff Substitute.  To apply for these substitute employment opportunities, interested candidates may print an Employment Application as well as the other forms listed to the right, fill out the forms and return them all to:  140 W. Washington Street between the hours of 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.  If you have questions regarding Support Staff substitute opportunities, please call Deb Nelsen at 330-636-3013.

In addition to the completed forms, the District is required to have a criminal history record check on file for anyone working for the schools.  Information about these background checks will be given to candidates at the time their completed paperwork is submitted.

The hourly rate of pay depends on the specific job a substitute works.  The rate of pay will be discussed at the time all completed paperwork is received.

SubFinder System


SubFinder is an automated system used by the teaching staff and most of the support staff to record and fill absences.  For example, regular employees who are ill and need to be off work can record the absence on SubFinder.  The system will then try to contact a substitute to fill that vacancy or the substitutes can call or go on-line to see available jobs and accept them.
