Strategic focus initiatives that the district is looking at or implementing at this time:
Collaboration
- To bridge gaps between other schools, community, business & world.
- Currently working on the Shared Services Team (SST) (formerly BMW)
- Joint group working together to align tech services and tech purchasing
E-Communications
- Blackboard
- SharePoint Pilots for collaboration
- Live.edu setup and some using Google apps
- Some Principals/Teachers are Tweeting & Blogging to parents, students and teachers
- Website
- Skype has been used to communicate outside the district, a more formal tele-conferencing solution being looked at
- Distance learning facility at MHS capable of handling real-time H.232 communications to anywhere operating on similar standards
Hardware / Software
- School piloting netbooks from Verizon
- District evaluating their 1:1 policy and what does that mean
- Labs in each of the buildings are being enhanced with robust thin client solutions
- Enterprise level wireless solutions being evaluated to support 1:1 initiatives
- Admin evaluating IPADs and their use in the district
Technology Training
- Series of training classes being offered to instructors on a wide range of technical subjects
- Beginning to look at the concept of a Technology Academy for the county that brings together schools, the Career Center, Libraries etc to provide a technical education mechanism for staff, students and members of the community
