Discovery Team's Goals
  • To work with teachers to design and deliver lessons that expand and enhance learning for students.
  • To provide depth and complexity in learning experiences through direct instruction with students.
  • To work with teachers to identify differentiated student needs and to provide for those needs both within and outside the classroom.

Parent Resource Library

Beginning October 1, 2009 parents can come to the Root Middle School Library to peruse our selection of parenting books. Take a look at the titles that are available for parents to check out at our Parent Resource Library, funded by the Medina City Schools Foundation. Simply click on the link "ParentLibraryTable" on the right to open a word document that contains an image of the books available to you. By holding down the control key and clicking on a book's image you will be redirected to Amazon.com where you can learn more about the book, or in many cases preview the table of contents. If you have suggestions for book titles or would like to donate to the collection, please e-mail Stacy Hawthorne at hawthors@mcsoh.org.

Power of the Pen

 A. I. Root competed in the Greene District Power of the Pen tournament on January 23, 2010. It was a very successful tournament. The eighth grade team earned a second place trophy. Individual winners included Kaila Griffin, with a 9th place finish in the 7th grade division; Megan Schmit earned a 9th place medal and Jennifer Ramolt earned a 7th place medal in the 8th grade division. Rachel Krupp earned two Best of Round awards and finished with a 6th place trophy. Other members of Root’s team attending the tournament included Maddie Polk, Yasmina Saadeh, Gabrielle Urban, Jackie Noel, Kelsey Usher, Andrea Hatvani, Andrea Parks, Emily Platz, and Alexis Cook.  In addition, Sara BenBella, Carleton Whitmore, Michael Manley, Sam Lambert, Bailey Gallagher, Caleb Parker, Ben Memberg, and Amanda Maille are also team members.

Congratulations to team members Kaila Griffin, Gabrielle Urban, Yasmina Saadeh, Maddie Polk, Andrea Hatvani, Jen Ramolt, Kelsey Usher, Rachel Krupp and Megan Schmit.  All of these students have qualified to go on to the Root Regional on March 6, 2010.

The second leg of the march to the Power of the Pen state tournament took place at Root on March 6, 2010. Eighth grader Jen Ramolt was a 10th place finisher, Rachel Krupp was a 3rd place finisher and Megan Schmit was a 2nd place finisher. Congratulations to these girls who will be advancing to the state tournament at the College of Wooster on May 21, 2010.  The eighth grade team finished in 3rd place overall and the combined 7th and 8th grade teams finished in 4th place for the Sweepstakes trophy.
