Striving for Excellence
The motto "Reaching for the Stars, Striving for Excellence" means that everyone at Ella Canavan School works together to help all children set goals and reach their potential. The mission statement of Ella Canavan School promises "We responsibly prepare students to become enthusiastic life-long learners who reach for the stars. We do this by skillfully presenting an individually challenging curriculum in a school setting that values kindness, respect and personal responsibility. This atmosphere is created through the care we give to our school environment and the commitment we make to build positive relationships with students, parents, staff and community." |

Student Opportunities
The Parent Teacher Organization provides special assemblies. They normally include COSI, theatre performances such as Mad Cap Productions, and Magical Theatre Company. This last assembly requires all fifth grade students to participate in a "Writing Rally" in the fall. In the spring the Magical Theatre group chooses two of the stories that have been submitted by the fifth grade students and turns them into a play which is presented to the whole school. Special events include Right to Read Week, Field Day, and Arbor Day celebration. Intermediate students may join Safety Patrol. The Canavan Cafe and weekly "Good Card" drawings recognize students for good citizenship and academic achievement. |

Parents Are Important

Events like Meet Your Staff Night, Fall Family Night, Spring Open House and Art Show bring parents into the school. An active PTO raises funds and provides volunteers. Volunteers participate in such activities as the Junior Great Books Program, Call Home for Safety Program, New Family Greeting Program and the Courtyard Beautification Committee. |
